For me, painting outdoors from nature is the only true way to capture the ‘essence’ of a scene, whether it be a sea scape, street scene or rolling landscape vista, or perhaps just a sunlit cane chair in a garden. My intention is always to capture that first emotional response that initially drew me to the subject.
