I'm fascinated by the human body. The demands we place on it and what it is capable of doing. Its ability to store emotions, to transmute and express one's life journey. The drawings in this exhibition have been executed with charcoal pencil. This allows me to work quickly. The graphic quality, and the immediacy presented by drawing, aid in my desire to respond intuitively to my subject, in order to capture its spirit with a degree of sensitivity. I have used galvanised wire to create the abstract wall hung sculptures. Referencing an initial life drawing, a study of the human figure emerges from a mass of twisted wire, mapping the contours of the body. The layers are stripped away to reveal imperfection, energy, strength and fragility; all of which are innately human.
