Refraction In this painting, a rainbow lorikeet is bursting in vibrant colour, its plumage alive with the full spectrum of the rainbow. Unlike the other works in this exhibition, which explore tension, vulnerability, concealment, or struggle, this bird embodies joy, presence, and celebration. I sought the emotion of delight-the unrestrained vitality of life expressed in colour, movement and light. The lorikeet becomes the capstone to the series, a visual exhalation after the weight of the other themes. Its brilliance reminds us that even amid complexity, uncertainty, and challenge, there is room for exuberance, play and affirmation. Through this painting, I hope to leave the viewer with a sense of emotional release, a moment to pause and be fully present, witnessing the sheer joy of living as reflected in nature.
