Fade to Black In this work, a black cockatoo gradually fades into the darkness of its background, almost dissolving from view. These birds are an endangered species, their future uncertain, and the painting carries that fragility and precariousness. The fading form reflects more than environmental concern; it speaks to human needs and vulnerabilities that can be ignored, overlooked, or neglected until it is too late. There is an inherent tension between presence and disappearance, between resilience and fragility, between visibility and invisibility. The painting invites contemplation on what we choose to see and protect — in the natural world, in our communities, and within ourselves. Like the fading cockatoo, important aspects of life and identity can slip quietly from attention unless consciously acknowledged.
